Wilson, Bourdais want more ovals

Sebastien Bourdais and Justin Wilson have called for more oval races on the Champ Car World Series schedule in the future

The pair finished 1-2 respectively in yesterday's race at the Milwaukee Mile, which thanks to Las Vegas Motor Speedway losing its date for this year, is now Champ Car's only oval race.

The new Panoz Champ Car chassis, which comes into force next year, has been designed with the possibility of running on ovals in mind. However, unless the series' mooted merger with the IRL takes place, it is unlikely that many more oval races would be added for next season.

"We should have more ovals," Bourdais said. "This series has been more about these ovals, and it would make it easier for everybody because when you're a rookie in the field, it's tough.

"We never test in these places. We show up, we hope we have good equipment and everything, but when you're a rookie and the team doesn't have that good a setup and you show up just before the race, it's awful.

"It's just incredibly difficult to figure out. You've got to get to a certain level before you get comfortable. I think it would be a good thing."

Wilson echoed Bourdais' sentiments, saying it was important for the series to race on a variety of tracks.

"It would be nice to see one or two more because historically that's what this Championship has been about, having the variety of circuits, whether it's airport or road or street or short oval," Wilson said.
