Wickens frustrated by missed chance

Robert Wickens was disappointed to have missed out on the chance to secure second place in the Formula 2 championship in this afternoon's race at Barcelona

The Canadian had started the weekend nine points clear of rival Mikhail Aleshin and then took pole position for both races. But he made a poor start in race one and retired early.

"At the start of the green flag lap there was a misfire in my car," said Wickens. "I figured I would hope for the best and see if I could finish the race.

"As the race went on it got progressively worse with a lot of misfiring and eventually I had no throttle and the clutch paddles didn't work either.

"[Catalunya] is my favourite track in Europe. It's a shame because my weekend was spectacular before that point."

Wickens and Aleshin will now settle the battle for the runner-up spot in the points standings in tomorrow's race, which is the final round of the season.

"It's not an ideal situation now but it is what it is. Aleshin is starting seventh tomorrow and I'm going to try to win it," Wickens said.
