Weaver on pole in Houston

James Weaver showed the potential of his new Dyson Racing Lola by putting the car pole position for the second round of the American Le Mans Series in Houston

Weaver's time of 1:04.459 around the 1.69-mile, nine-turn street circuit was his 14th ALMS pole, as the series makes its return to street racing for the first time since 2003.

Weaver qualified just 0.022 seconds ahead of the impressive LMP2 Porsche Spyders, who occupy second and third spots on the grid.

"The pole shows there is a huge amount of potential in the car," Weaver said. "At Sebring, we were about four seconds off the pace, and here we hope to compete all evening.

"But it doesn't matter how long you've been doing this or how many times you've done it. This feeling never gets old."

Romain Dumas put the number 7 Penske Racing Porsche on the front row with Weaver, ahead of teammate Sascha Maassen. The RS Spyder has qualified on LMP2 pole in all three of the series races it has entered.

The Audi of Dindo Capello and Allan McNish will start fourth, after Capello recorded a lap nearly a second behind Weaver.

The successful R8 has been pressed into service for three more rounds of the series while the new diesel-powered R10 is being readied for the Le Mans 24 Hours.
