Creation withdraw from Spa event
Creation have withdrawn from this weekend's Le Mans Series race at Spa after Felipe Ortiz crashed in practice
Ortiz was not seriously hurt in the accident, which occurred while lapping Gianni Collini in the Lucchini LMP2 car at the superfast Blanchimont corner. However the car was damaged beyond repair.
"I was familiarising myself with the track again as I haven't been here since 2003," Ortiz said. "I'd done a couple of laps at speed. I came across Collini in the Lucchini LMP2 at Blanchimont and I was obviously quicker than him so decided to overtake, when probably I shouldn't have done. It was my own stupidity.
"I put my nose forward to overtake him but he didn't see me and closed the gap. When you lift off that suddenly, from over 230 kph, it's hard to keep it straight and I spun three or maybe four times and ended up facing the traffic. While I was stationary a Corvette clipped me on the front left corner of the car and pushed the wishbone into the tub."
It marks a disappointing start to the life of the team's new hybrid CA06/H car, which retired form the first round in Istanbul with gearbox problems.
The team will now work on rebuilding the car for the official Le Mans 24 Hours test on June 4.
