Vasiliauskas tops first day at Portimao

Kazim Vasiliauskas set the fastest time of the first day of this week's Formula 2 test at Portimao

The Lithuanian, who finished seventh in F2 this season, went quickest in the final hour's running during the afternoon session.

Newly-crowned McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner Dean Smith finished the test in second place. He set his best time during the morning and, as the temperature climbed during the afternoon, it remained the best of the day until the boost was turned up for the final hour.

Benjamin Bailly pinched the third quickest time as the chequered flag came out to end the day. Johan Jokinen continued his good F2 testing form, after topping the first day of last week's test at Valencia. He finishing second fastest in both the morning and afternoon sessions and then led for much of the evening, before dropping to fourth at the end.

Ramon Pineiro was fifth, with Russian Ivan Samarin sixth, Alex Brundle seventh and F2 newcomer Duncan Tappy eighth. Jose Alonso Liste and Jolyon Palmer completed the top 10.
