Unser Jr joins Team USA

Al Unser Jr is set to join Team USA for this winter's A1 Grand Prix series, as he agreed to join an upcoming test, autosport.com can exclusively reveal

A two-day pre-season A1 GP test starts at Silverstone on Wednesday, with up to 19 teams and 32 drivers due to take part.

The former Champ Car multiple title holder will join Bryan Herta and Phil Giebler in the team USA car.

Winners of last year's inaugural title, Team France, are set to once again boast a Nicolas Lapierre-Alex Premat line-up, with Lapierre keen to defend his crown after a disappointing, injury-hit GP2 season.

Lapierre said: "It's not fully settled yet but it's looking like me and Alex for team France again. We had a great time taking the title last year and we get on really well as teammates, so it will be a good challenge to defend the title. It puts the pressure on us to win."
