Al Unser Jr is set to join Team USA for this winter's A1 Grand Prix series, as he agreed to join an upcoming test, autosport.com can exclusively reveal

Unser Jr joins Team USA

A two-day pre-season A1 GP test starts at Silverstone on Wednesday, with up to 19 teams and 32 drivers due to take part.

The former Champ Car multiple title holder will join Bryan Herta and Phil Giebler in the team USA car.

Winners of last year's inaugural title, Team France, are set to once again boast a Nicolas Lapierre-Alex Premat line-up, with Lapierre keen to defend his crown after a disappointing, injury-hit GP2 season.

Lapierre said: "It's not fully settled yet but it's looking like me and Alex for team France again. We had a great time taking the title last year and we get on really well as teammates, so it will be a good challenge to defend the title. It puts the pressure on us to win."

The testing's entry list, subject to final confirmation, is:

Team USA Al Unser Jr, Phil Giebler, Bryan Herta; Team France Nicolas Lapierre, Alex Premat; Team GB Robbie Kerr, Darren Manning, Oliver Jarvis; Team Germany Nico Hulkenberg, Michael Ammermueller; Team Brazil Tuka Rocha; Team Canada Sean McIntosh, James Hinchliffe; Team China Conffu Cheng; Team Indonesia Ananda Mikola, Moreno Soeprato; Team Ireland Michael Devaney; Team Italy Michele Rugolo, M. Gatto, A. Pieguidi, D. Valsechi; Team Lebanon Khalil Beschir, Graham Rahal, Basil Shaaban; Team Malaysia Alex Yoong, Fairuz Fauzy, Nick Irwan, Aaron Luis; Team Mexico Salvador Duran; Team Holland Jos Verstappen; Team New Zealand Chris van der Drift, Johnny Reid; Team Pakistan Adam Khan; Team South Africa Stephen Simpson, Tomas Scheckter; Team Switzerland TBC; Team Czech Republic TBC.

OPINION: The 67th edition of the Macau Grand Prix might have been a largely muted affair to the outside world without its international influx and star line-ups, another victim to the COVID-19 pandemic, but organisers deserve huge credit for keeping the party going
