Trans-Am to develop GT-1 participation
The Motorock Trans-Am Series is to widen its appeal to teams owning SCCA GT-1 racecars in 2004. The US organisation's GT-1 Development Program will again award a GT-1 drivers' title (presented for the first time in 2003) and will address technical specifications and financial assistance. "The key to the future of any series is creating and maintaining a vibrant driver and team development system," said Trans-Am executive director John Clagett. "GT-1 is key to Trans-Am's future."
Clagett said that a comprehensive rules package was being formulated better to address the needs of GT-1 teams and to make participation in Trans-Am more financially feasible. "We're researching specifications, including those governing engine displacement and compression ratios, to allow for a more seamless transition from GT-1 to Trans-Am," he said. "Certain rules regarding tyre and wheel choices and safety will remain in force. However, other rules are being reviewed with a clean-slate approach in the hope of attracting a wider GT-1 field. We plan to release those rules in the near future."
