Teams urge Ford to act fast
While welcoming the news of Ford's return to support the series, teams and manufacturers are calling for the parent company to re-establish the stability in the formula which will allow them to commit to a long-term future in the category
Core manufacturers Van Diemen and Mygale were on hand at last weekend's Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch to unveil the new versions of their cars, both essentially evolutions of existing models, as well as the all-new Spirit equipe.
Van Diemen's John Uprichard said: "Formula Ford remains a key part of the company, but we need the announcement from Ford of what it is doing as soon as possible. That will give the teams and the manufacturers the necessary time needed to ensure that the new rules in 2006 are a success."
Mygale's Bertrand Decoster echoed Uprichard's sentiments, emphasising the need to settle the rules package as soon as possible, although Ford boss Jos Capito underlined Ford's commitment to making the formula work. The new rules are expected to revolve around the Sigma 1600cc engine.
Capito said: "Ford is absolutely committed to making Formula Ford work. There are already many ideas for how the new rules should be, but for now the priority is a period of stabilising Formula Ford in 2005."
"We will consult with the teams and manufacturers about which direction the formula will go, but we are committed to it remaining as an affordable, entry level series."
