Shell sponsors MIA technology conference

Shell is to be the headline sponsor of the Transferring Technology Conference [Oct 14] to be staged by Britain's Motorsport Industry Association on November 20. The rescheduled event, hosted by QinetiQ at Farnborough, Hampshire, will examine how motorsport companies of all sizes can benefit by sharing technologies and expertise with other high-performance engineering sectors, such as defence and aerospace

Simon Dunning, of the Motorsport Business Development division of Shell Global Solutions (UK), will join the speakers at the conference, highlighting how Shell works closely with the Ferrari F1 team to optimise the development of fuel and oils.

Several leading motorsport companies will use the conference to describe how they have diversified or marketed their technologies to other engineering sectors. The other speakers will include Pat Symonds (Renault F1 executive director of engineering), Chris Lee (BAE Systems technologist adviser), Jim Hey (Prodrive business development manager), Andrew Ramshaw (QinetiQ motorsport business development manager), Adrian Moore (Xtrac technical director), Cliff Young (DTI international technology promoter), John Kell (TWI business development manager) and Dr Roger Davidson (Crompton Technology technical director).

As the event host, QinetiQ will provide delegates with an exclusive tour of its composites and metallics laboratory. The tour will also include a visit to QinetiQ's 5m wind tunnel and its Centre for Human Sciences, which researches human output in different environments, with a focus on man/machine interaction.
