Seoul date on calendar

Organisers of the Champ Car World Series have announced a 16-race schedule of events for 2004, the venue and exact date for two of which remain to be announced

Among the highlights of the announced schedule, which begins with the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 18, are confirmation of the new street race in Seoul, South Korea in October, and a shift of the Cleveland event at Burke Lakefront Airport back to a daytime race after last year's switch to a night race format. No European races are included, and only one oval, at Milwaukee, feature on the schedule so far.

"We're very excited about our schedule, and especially happy with the diverse challenges it represents for our drivers and teams," said Champ Car's president Dick Eidswick. "Our fans have been outstanding in their support, and we are anxious to get started."

The provisional dates, including the season finale, are expected to be firmed up within the next couple of days, as is the television package. Races in Durban in South Africa, California Speedway in Fontana and a Miami-based event are understood to be under consideration.
