SCCA Pro Racing retains Trans-Am sanction

The Motorock Trans-Am Series will be sanctioned in 2004 by SCCA Pro Racing, although Champ Car will take over its operation. The deal, under which new Champ Car owner OWRS recognises the SCCA's claim to ownership of the Trans-Am brand [Dec 22], was announced yesterday in Long Beach, CA, by Trans-Am executive director John Clagett, SCCA Pro president Steve Johnson, and Champ Car World Series president Dick Eidswick.

"This unique sanctioning and operations agreement allows the Trans-Am Series to have the best of both worlds," said Clagett. "SCCA Pro, which owns the Trans-Am brand, is an integral part of the long history of the series, and will continue its longstanding tradition of supplying the nation's premier corner workers and race-weekend staff.

"The addition of Champ Car will integrate Trans-Am with a great motorsport organisation, known for its world-renowned safety team, its top-notch technology department, and its strengths in administration, insurance, PR and marketing. The integration also allows for greater efficiency in terms of operations, making Trans-Am stronger operationally than ever before."
