Sebring day 4: Da Matta on top

Cristiano da Matta topped the time charts on the final day of testing at the Sebring International Raceway as three drivers managed to break the 51-second barrier

"The test was quite good - no, really good," said Da Matta afterwards. "Lola made some good improvements with the car and the Toyota is strong. Compared to the first test I had last season, which was good, this one was much better. We are only starting to work with the car and understand it but so far, so good."

Kenny Brack also came away from the test a contented man as the Lola chassis claimed the top three lap times.

"We were able to get a lot accomplished in a short amount of time," said Brack. "The Ganassi team continues to amaze me. We ran close to 300 miles today and we still haven't had a mechanical problem. I've never driven that many miles in a one-day test before."

Adrian Fernandez confirmed the potential of the Lola-Honda combination by running a 51.2 second lap, marginally better than team mate Shinji Nakano's time of 51.8 seconds.

"My first impressions of the car are very good," said Fernández. "We concentrated on changes to see what the car liked throughout most of the morning, and not on speed. By the end of the day, the changes we were doing were making sense and the car was getting better and better."

Jimmy Vasser also dipped under 51 seconds with an identical lap time to Brack's.
