Sebring 1: Junqueira flies

The Newman/Haas squad demonstrated its intentions to run at the front of the Champ Car World Series this year, as both 2003 runner-up Bruno Junqueira and Sebastien Bourdais ran in the 50-second bracket in testing at Sebring on Wednesday

Five teams hit the track on Wednesday, the first of three days of testing in preparation for the season-opening Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach next month.

"It was really good to get back in the McDonald's car and do some laps," said Bourdais. "I hadn't been in the car in four months, and that was too long for me, I was itching to get back. I took a little time to get the rust off and I felt pretty good my second time out of the pits."

Alex Tagliani and Nelson Philippe (both Rocketsports) were joined by Ryan Hunter-Reay (Herdez), Roberto Gonzalez (PKV) and AJ Allmendinger (RuSPORT) joined the Newman/Haas duo.

"We have already done some testing but it was nice to get out here with some other people and see where you stand," said Allmendinger. "I feel good in the car and get more comfortable with it every lap. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to Long Beach and that first race."

Jimmy Vasser (PKV) and Mario Dominguez (Herdez) will join those testing on Thursday.
