Carpentier stays at Forsythe

The Forsythe Racing team has confirmed that it will run a third car for Patrick Carpentier in the 2004 Champ Car World Series. The Canadian will join compatriot and series champion Paul Tracy running in Indeck colours, while Rodolfo Lavin will continue with the Corona livery he carried last year

Carpentier has always been contracted to Jerry Forsythe's team but was informed shortly before the launch of the resuscitated series that it would not be able to run him, but that it would honour his contract by placing him with another squad.

The team has now sourced a third Lola itself for Carpentier, to help the Open Wheel Racing Series meet its obligation to engine supplier Ford which requires 18 car grids. Carpentier is expected to join his team-mates testing in Sebring, Homestead and Fontana before the season opener at Long Beach on April 18.

"Now that the final details of running three cars have been worked out by the team I'm really looking forward to testing next week and the first race, and working for the series and challenging for the championship" said Carpentier.

Reigning champion Tracy seems undeterred by the winter's politics and is determined to defend his title: "It's been a long winter. I'm fit and ready to go racing and determined to defend my championship. Champ Car is the greatest series and I look forward to racing in front of full grandstands at Long Beach."
