RuSPORT on top at Sebring

RuSPORT duo A.J. Allmendinger and Justin Wilson set the overall pace at the end of the three-day Champ Car open test at Sebring last weekend

Reigning Rookie of the Year Allmendinger was quickest with a lap of 50.64s according to Cosworth Racing's timings, 0.3s faster than team-mate Wilson.

Bruno Junqueira was third fastest while his Newman/Haas team-mate and reigning champion Sebastien Bourdais was otherwise engaged at the Daytona 24 Hour race - where he endured a trouble time in Paul Newman's Ford-Crawford.

Several drivers only ran on the first day of testing, when cold weather conditions left the track slippery and made times unrepresentative. Cristiano da Matta was among these drivers, and only had time to briefly acquaint himself with his new PKV Racing Lola-Ford before also heading for Daytona.

"I can't say that I am completely comfortable in the Champ Car because we only ran 30 laps, but I don't think that it will take much longer," said da Matta. "We put in some good work on Friday and got a lot of little things done, like adjusting the pedals, so that at the next test we will be ready to go hard right away."

Rocketsports ran former Jordan Formula 1 driver Timo Glock and ex-Herdez racer Ryan Hunter-Reay at the test, while Conquest Racing was also present with the recently resigned Nelson Philippe and an array of potential rookies contending for the team's second seat.

Toyota Atlantic graduate Alex Figge was the best of the bunch, getting within 0.1s of Philippe on Sunday. His rivals Bruce Jouanny and Matt Halliday only ran in the difficult conditions of Friday's session.

Justin Wilson (RuSPORT) 50.90s
Bruno Junqueira (Newman/Haas) 50.97s
