Rookie Dominguez gets underway

Mexican rookie Mario Dominguez wasted no time getting acclimatised to Champ Cars when he lapped on the pace in testing at Sebring this week

The Herdez-Bettenhausen team came away happy from the two-day test at the Florida circuit . The 26-year-old clocked a 51.55 second over the course of 315 miles of reliable running.

"I think the test went very well," Dominguez remarked. "I am quite happy with the new car and how it responded to the engineering changes that were made over the two days. I feel that [chief engineer] Tom Brown and I are really starting to communicate well too."

Managing director Keith Wiggins added: "I can see that we have a lot of room for improvement but I'm confident that, as we continue with our winter testing program, those improvements will come. It was a good first test and provided us with a good shake down of the new chassis. I'd say we're quite happy with the car and Mario's performance. We learned a few things about the car and I'd say we're pleased with the enhancements Lola has made since last season. Mario didn't make any mistakes or have any major offs so it was a successful two days overall."
