Rocketsports in talks with Kasemets
Rocketsports Racing are negotiating with Tonis Kasemets for a drive in several Champ Car races this season, team owner Paul Gentilozzi has confirmed to autosport.com
The Estonian, who finished as runner-up in last year's Atlantic Championship is currently without a ride in any series but is now the most likely driver to partner Nicky Pastorelli, who joined Rocketsports at the opening round of the season and is in for the remainder of the season.
Gentilozzi admitted he still has ambitions to morph Rocketsports' Champ Car squad into a Team Brazil, hinged on the recruitment of Formula One exile Antonio Pizzonia.
The Brazilian raced for the team in the first round, qualifying 11th, finishing tenth and setting sixth fastest race lap.
Given that the deal is not yet done, though, Gentilozzi felt obliged to have another driver on standby, as it was never his intention to run just one car for the whole season, as he had in the opening round.
However, Kasemets is unlikely to make his Champ Car debut at Houston this weekend, but both parties are hopeful that terms will be agreed in time for the third round, at Monterrey, Mexico in 12 days' time.
Autosport.com understands that should the Rocketsports/Kasemets deal happen, it will be for six races.
