Revived Swift claims first title

Swift Racing Cars received a major boost with the news that Olli Kaurala has become the first national Formula Ford champion of the season in one of their cars

Kaurala clinched the Finnish FFord title with a pair of wins at Kemora in his Swift SC99Z.

Swift was taken over by Alan Cooper at the end of a troubled 1998 season. The company, which had achieved great success in national level motorsport in the past, was relocated to Castle Combe and is now trying to regain its foothold in junior single-seater racing.

Kaurala's title is the first such success for Cooper since he took control of Swift. The Finn will continue to contest the Finnish and Danish series and could put in an appearance at the end-of-season Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch.

'We'd love to see Olli racing in the Festival,' said Cooper. 'He has had a brilliant season in Finland and we're delighted to have secured our first title as constructors.'
