Niki Lauda discusses clinching his third world title in F1's closest-ever decider at Estoril in 1984 (pictured below), while the man he vanquished, Alain Prost, re-lives his dramatic championship triumph amid Nigel Mansell's spectacular tyre blowout around the streets of Adelaide two years later.

Mansell is another to feature, and there was no better Grand Prix to choose than his thrilling 1987 fightback to defeat team-mate and nemesis Nelson Piquet on home turf.

Jean Alesi recalls his arrival as a front-runner in battling with Ayrton Senna at Phoenix in 1990, while friend and team-mate Gerhard Berger emotionally reflects on ending Ferrari's lengthy win drought four years later.

Jacques Villeneuve recounts his famous clash with Michael Schumacher at Jerez's acrimonious title-deciding 1997 round, while Johnny Herbert looks back at giving Sir Jackie Stewart's underdog team a popular shock win at a rain-affected Nurburgring in 1999.

David Coulthard's bird-flipping exploits against arch-rival Schumacher feature in the 2000 French Grand Prix while the Nurburgring features once more courtesy of Fernando Alonso, who recalls his wheel-banging fight against Felipe Massa in 2007.

To cap it off, Jenson Button highlights the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix, a drive that included two clashes and a last-to-first charge that was only completed on the final lap of a four-hour epic.

As well as insight from the aforementioned figures 'How It Was' features extensive footage and unseen angles from the archive collection of races that have gone down in history as unforgettable epics.

Duke Video's F1 How It Was is available to buy for £11.99.
