Renault eyes FW26 nose

Renault's director of engineering Pat Symonds has admitted that the team is likely to evaluate a version of the radical nose featured on the Williams FW26

Autosport International

Autosport International is a four-day event motorsport event that includes a two-day trade show for industry professionals and a two-day public show.

Speaking at a Motorsport Industry Association debate at AUTOSPORT International, Symonds said that the team could incorporate the design into its 2004 car - but that it was essential to understanding the thinking behind the design first.

"The Williams appears interesting and logical," said Symonds of the striking car unveiled this week. "We'll look at it in the wind tunnel soon, and other teams will be trying it as well, I am sure.

"We could certainly incorporate the idea into our 2004 car. But really you can't look at one part in isolation - you need to understand the whole concept otherwise you won't get very far.

"It's all about unmasking the front wing. The Williams idea seems to be to stop weight from the front wing getting involved with the monocoque, and controlling the vortices and everything coming off the front wing."

Renault launches its 2004 challenger in Sicily on January 29.
