Rally Car of the Year: Ford Focus WRC

This year's Rally Car of the Year AUTOSPORT Award winner is the Ford Focus WRC 01

M-Sport's Malcolm Wilson picked up the award from British American Racing's Formula 1 racer Olivier Panis at the ceremony at Grosvenor House on Park Lane, London.

Ford's Colin McRae finished runner-up after a thrilling World Rally Championship finale on the Network Q Rally GB, and Ford also finished second in the manufacturers' championship.

"I don't think anyone in this room could have written the script for the end of the season," said Wilson. "It didn't quite turn out exactly how we wanted, but we've come very close for the last two years and I think we're in good shape to go all the way next year."

McRae won three rallies this season, proving the Focus was more than a match for its tough opposition that included Subaru, Peugeot and Mitsubishi.

The car also won this award last year, and reflects the popularity of the model in the eyes of AUTOSPORT's readers.
