British Driver: David Coulthard
This year's British Competition Driver AUTOSPORT Award winner is McLaren-Mercedes Formula 1 star David Coulthard
The very first McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Young Driver of the Year was awarded his latest trophy by Sir Stirling Moss - hailed as the best driver never to win the World Championship.
Coulthard enjoyed his best ever season in the Formula 1 World Championship this year, finishing the year as runner-up to World Champion Michael Schumacher and is hoping to go one better next year.
"My goal in life is to win grands prix and the world championship and absolutely nothing is going to distract me from that," said Coulthard.
The flying Scot took the fight to the Ferrari ace this year, scoring stunning victories in Brazil and Austria. His pole position lap at Monaco was one of the qualifying highlights of the season, but his McLaren-Mercedes didn't quite possess the pace of the all-conquering Ferrari.
Coulthard held off the double-edged challenge of Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello and Williams' Ralf Schumacher in the latter stages of the season and appeared on the podium a staggering 10 times in 17 races.
