Rain hits final Indy 500 qualifying

Steady rain brought an early end to the last day's qualifying for the Indy 500

It meant some drivers left the Indianapolis circuit happy, while others were ruing missed opportunities.

Before the rain, five drivers managed to work their way into the 33-strong field for next weekend.

They were Lyn St James, Jaques Lazier, Stephan Gregoire, Scott Harrington and Mike Groff, who knocked Raul Boesel, Johnny Unser, Jack Miller and Robbie Buhl off the grid.

Buhl had a particularly dramatic weekend. On Saturday he crashed, and early yesterday he blew his engine.

Having worked out an arrangement to driver Kenny Brack's back-up car, Buhl completed his four-lap qualifying run just 0.109mph ahead of Groff.
