Panoz to challenge Mercedes at Norisring
Panoz intends to take on the might of Mercedes at the blue-riband sportscar invitation event at the Norisring
The US marque wants to enter one if its new open-top LMP Spyders in the two sprint races on the famous German street track on July 3 and 4.
Team boss Don Panoz was not giving much away though, only saying, 'I've always said that we are interested in competing in high-quality races.'
However, it is known that the manufacturer's plan to contest the event is already at an advanced stage.
Sponsorship has come from German Klaus Graf, an occasional Panoz driver this year.
One problem is the proximity of the American Le Mans Series round at Mosport on June 27. The marque should have a third Spyder by then, but it would need another team to run the car in Germany.
He said, 'Nothing is clear at the moment. My plan is that I would like some of the guys from Panoz helping to run the car.
'I definitely want to do the race. I know the track very well and I know the Panoz can go well there.'
