Racing Together DVD review - looking at MotoGP through the ages
Motorcycle racing has evolved considerably over the seven decades since the inauguration of the world championship, with an amateur sport turned into a multi-billion-dollar organisation - but it remains a test of man and machine, exploring the limits of human capability and exploiting the potential of technology, with the leading contenders in each era earning superstar status

'Racing Together' is a feature-length documentary that charts motorcycle racing's journey, from the days of Geoff Duke and the Isle of Man, via the eras of the record-setting Giacomo Agostini, charismatic Barry Sheene, and American-led supremacy of Freddie Spencer and Eddie Lawson, through to the multi-title-winning globe-trotting dynasties of Mick Doohan, Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez.
Featuring interviews and reflections from legendary champions such as John Surtees, Giacomo Agostini, Kenny Roberts, Phil Read, Wayne Gardner, Wayne Rainey, Kevin Schwantz, Mick Doohan, Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez - along with insight from mechanics and journalists - 'Racing Together' not only delves into the rivalries, but explores the evolution of riding techniques and technology, the social changes that influenced matters on track and in the paddock, and the business developments that took the championship to the next level.
Each era is thoroughly analysed, with new riders reinventing and reimagining the concept of physics, and the camaraderie of friendly rivalry sometimes breaking down into bitter feuds, both on- and off-track.
There is the elation of victory, the bitter taste of defeat, but also the despair of careers and lives wrecked by misfortune or tragedy, emphasising the highs and lows of competition - and the stark reality that accompanies both.
This DVD immortalises the most iconic rivalries and battles of all time through archive material and unseen footage, from the dawn of top-level two-wheeled road-racing to the present period, making this an unmissable watch for all motorcycle enthusiasts.
