Racing stars pay tribute to Dallenbach
Michael Andretti and Christian Fittipaldi have paid tribute to long-serving Newman Haas chief steward Wally Dallenbach - who retires at the end of this season
Dallenbach's final race will be the season-finale, the Marlboro 500 at The California Speedway on October 31.
Andretti said, 'I have known Wally all of my life.
'He has been a real friend to me and he is going to be missed. He helped make CART one of, if not the, most competitive racing series in the world.
'Wally is fair and has a true passion for the sport. One indication of how great Wally was as Chief Steward is how long it has taken to be able to replace him.'
Meanwhile, Fittipaldi added, 'It was great working with Wally. He definitely had one of the toughest jobs in the series. Because he had been a driver, he knew what type of pressure we were in as well as the importance of safety issues.
'Wally was also fair with the drivers so we respected his decisions.'
