Racing Car: Ferrari F1-2000
The design partnership of Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn came together in 1992 and joined Ferrari in 1996. The successful duo's F399 car of 1999 took the constructor's championship back to Maranello, but this year's car truly dominated
The F1-2000 took Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello to 10 wins and 10 pole positions between them, securing both the drivers' and constructors' championships.
The feat is all the more impressive as the Prancing Horse is still the only team to design and build its own chassis and engine. The F1-2000 package included a longitudinal seven-speed gearbox and Ferrari's all-new 049 V10 power unit.
Technical directors Brawn and Paolo Martinelli and Byrne accepted the award from the voice of F1, Murray Walker.
Brawn said: "It's been a fantastic year, an unbelievable year. I don't think I could have handled another year of missing out on the championship.
"I'd like to pay tribute to our engine designer Martin Elliot. Also Rory Byrne, who is one of the most comiited men I know. But we couldn't have done it without Jean Todt."
Ferrari has never won the award in its 18-year history and the F1-2000 joins an impressive list of previous winners which includes the McLaren MP4/4, the Jaguar XJR8 and the Williams FW14B.
