Premier1 Grand Prix postponed until 2004
The launch of the innovative Premier1 Grand Prix series, conceived as an "F1-style" track racing series for world-leading football (soccer) clubs, has again been postponed, until 2004. Operations director Robin Webb said that the project had been delayed by the bankruptcy of Reynard Motorsport, which was to have built the 'spec' chassis, and by internal reorganisation. P1GP has closed its Swiss office and relocated its operations to the UK, and recruited former TOCA CEO Alan Gow
Webb said: "The first of our objectives is to have the soccer clubs contractually committed to the series and, as will be revealed, we are doing this with enormous success. This will be a truly international championship with representation from at least 14 countries. In recent weeks, final contracts have been agreed with some of the biggest names in international football and an up-to-date list will be published in a few weeks. I think quite a few people are in for a big surprise. Despite the interruptions, we are still very much on track."
