Peugeot remain on top at Spa

Peugeot continued to dominate proceedings at Spa-Francorchamps this afternoon, finish the second practice session for this weekend's Le Mans Series round with both cars at the top of the timesheets

But Audi are at least onto the same pace as their rivals now, thanks to Allan McNish's 2:01.618 lap, which was just half a second shy of the lead Peugeot.

It was Marc Gene who set the best time in the No7 908 HDi, taking over from Jacques Villeneuve, who drove for most of the session, and beating Alex Wurz's time in the sister car by three tenths of a second.

Nicolas Lapierre broke into the top four in the Courage Oreca he shares with fellow Frenchman Olivier Panis. Lapierre pushed the No. 2 Audi of Mike Rockenfeller and Alexandre Premat down to fifth place, with Jan Charouz sixth in the Lola Aston Martin.

Jos Verstappen again led the way in LMP2. The Dutchman's best time in the Porsche RS Spyder was two seconds quicker than any of his class rivals, and he had run as high as fourth overall. But the car dropped to seventh as times were bettered throughout the session and Peter van Merksteijn couldn't beat his benchmark.

The LMP1 Lavaggi LS1 turned its first laps of the season with Wolfgang Kaufmann at the wheel. The car finished the session 25th overall, 12 seconds off the ultimate LMP1 pace.

Peter Kox and Romain Rusinov led the GT1 class in their Lamborghini Murcielago, with Richard Lietz on top in GT2 for Porsche.
