Patrese eager for more races

Riccardo Patrese is eager for more Grand Prix Masters races after finishing third in the inaugural event at Kyalami yesterday

Patrese, who took six wins in his Grand Prix career, initially believed the concept of GP Masters was going to mean the race would be theatrical, however the Italian said that the entire grid was pushing hard throughout the 30 laps.

The event was a prelude to an expected six-round series next year. However the plan is to treat the events as one-offs, rather than have a championship table.

"I want more and I want it now, " Patrese said. "I thought the whole concept of the GP Masters was about entertainment but this is not the case. These guys are clearly deadly serious on the track and racing amongst these gods was like time standing still - I really do mean that.

"My mirrors were full of race cars throughout the 30-laps and at no point was there time to relax. This is a hardcore group of racers who have reminded the world of their hardcore heritage."
