Palmer claims maiden F2 pole
Jolyon Palmer snatched a last-gasp pole for the opening round of the Formula 2 season at Silverstone today
Johan Jokinen and Dean Stoneman had contested the top spot throughout most of the half hour, but Palmer jumped from third to first with a final effort a tenth of a second quicker than Jokinen.
Philipp Eng was fourth fastest, ahead of series newcomers Sergei Afanasiev and Will Bratt.
Kazim Vasiliauskas, whose place in the series was only saved on Thursday, will start seventh, with Jack Clarke, Mihai Marinescu and Benjamin Lariche completing the top 10.
There were no stoppages during the session, the only incidents being a spin for Ajit Kumar and a trip through the gravel at Priory for Tom Gladdis.
