Ortelli dominates bruising Monaco Supercup
Monte Carlo-based Stephane Ortelli dominated his home round of the Porsche Supercup on Sunday morning, using all his local knowledge in the early laps to get well clear of the crash-fest which occurred behind him
Ortelli made a blistering start from pole and extended a 3.7secs lead by the end of the opening lap, ahead of Sascha Maassen, Wolf Henzler, Alessandro Zampedri, Jorg Bergmeister and Philipp Peter.
Seventh placed Oliver Mathai spun out after contact from Pedro Couceiro at Sainte Devote on lap two, while Ralf Kelleners clattered into Peter at Portier, taking both out of the race soon after. Zampedri then misjudged an overtaking move and clipped Maassen under braking for the Nouvelle Chicane, causing both to pit.
All the carnage left Ortelli well clear of Henzler, while Bergmeister - a two-time winner already this year - dropped out of third when he lost power on lap four. That promoted A1-Ring victor Marco Werner to third, who finished ahead of Sinista Kosutic and guest driver Jonathan Cochet.
