New MIA work on Working Time Directive
The UK's Motorsport Industry Association has held a meeting of its national Motorsport Employers Group to coordinate a response to a new DTI consultation paper on the EU Working Time Directive. The DTI invited input from the British motorsport industry on how an individual opt-out from the 48-hour weekly working time limit could be applied
The CEO of the MIA, Chris Aylett, commented: "The imposition of a 48-hour working time limit will have serious repercussions for the UK motorsport industry. Input from our Motorsport Employers Group is vital in retaining the opt-out and securing Britain's long-term competitive advantage in motorsport. This most recent consultation provides a further valuable opportunity for this Group to air its views and provide the DTI with the industry's perspective on this critical issue."
Sue Scarf, the HR director of Prodrive in Banbury, added: "The Working Time Directive opt-out gives flexibility to both the industry and its employees. Therefore the motorsport industry's favoured route must be to retain this option."
