Nazareth is 'too narrow and short'

British Champ Car ace Mark Blundell is unhappy with the CART series still using the Nazareth circuit

He believes the 0.9-mile Nazareth oval is no longer suitable for the series.

He voiced his opinion at the CART event there over the weekend.

I just don't think we should be at this racetrack in this configuration with this horsepower,' he said.

It's a fantastic little track, but in this day and age I don't think we should be here. '

He continued, 'You need a wider track, longer straights and more open corners so you can race side-by-side. For me, that's what oval racing is all about and you can't do that here.'

Blundell added that before short-oval wings were trimmed for 1999, 'it was still tough to pass' at Nazareth.

The single-element wings, which cut downforce by 40% in a bid to reduce cornering speeds, met with disapproval from the drivers.

CART race boss Kirk Russell explained, 'We didn't have a mid-point in the combinations of aerodynamic packages we have. That's why we're here with the package we have today.'
