Muller seals sixth Andros Trophy success

Vauxhall's British Touring Car Championship star Yvan Muller has won the French Andros Trophy ice racing title for a sixth successive season

Driving a 300bhp-plus, four-wheel drive Opel Astra, the 31-year-old from Seppois Le Bas has become the undoubted king of the discipline, despite the loss of works support from Opel and a new success ballast system being imposed for this season.

"I'm pleased to have won the title and rather proud," said Muller. "It's quite something to have won six years in a row. This year has been difficult, without Opel France, and with the penalty weight system, but we've still managed to win three out of five rounds so far. The handicap system has definitely worked - you could easily see how 60kg made people slow down. [Marcel] Tarres won in Serre Chevalier, but with the weight in Andorra, was fifth. At Super Besse, without any weight, he won again."

As he finished third at the weekend, Muller should start the final round with only 20 kg extra weight in the car - the least he has carried since the first round at Val Thorens, back in early December. There is some doubt over the event, however, as the weather has once again warmed up.

If the round is cancelled, Muller may go to the German track of Oschersleben for the second round of the separate Ice Race Series International series. "I don't know yet - I'll have to wait and see what happens," he said.
