Moscow plans new Russian GP venue
The city of Moscow is keeping alive its ambition to host the first F1 Russian GP, according to first deputy mayor Valery Shantsev. "We plan to build a top-class circuit, good enough to host F1 races, in the next couple of years, and then hopefully we'll be able to stage the grand prix," Shantsev told the Reuters news agency. After the failure of the project on Nagatino Island, south of the city, officials are now evaluating a new site in the northern outskirts
Shantsev added the city government and French car manufacturer Renault are currently engaged in a joint venture to build a manufacturing plant in Moscow, and said that negotiations with Formula One Management principal Bernie Ecclestone are continuing.
"We haven't broken our dealings with Ecclestone completely and negotiations are still going on from time to time," he said. "By now he has been able to take his Formula One business to almost every major city in the world. I'm sure that, sooner or later, he will come to us as well."
