Montezemolo critical of new F1 rules
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has criticised the new F1 points-scoring system which was among a raft of changes decided in London last month [Oct 28], reports Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport. "It was a serious mistake - I had too much patience," he said. "Ferrari is working better than the others, and I took badly to declarations of revolution based on us being superior. I believe it is now possible to win the world championship without having to win a race."
Di Montezemolo was speaking during a visit to the Pirelli factory for the launch of a deal between the Italian rubber manufacturer and Ferrari's sister company, Maserati [Nov 18]. He continued: "The teams had a large spirit of collaboration and a sense of responsibility, because to revolutionise F1 would have been a serious mistake that we would not have accepted. However, these rules are a mistake too. The difference between 10 points for winning and eight points for second is too low, but it is a small matter and was not noticed."
