Modified schedule mooted after delays
CART officials are considering adopting a modified schedule for the Rockingham 500 after today's (Thursday's) disrupted running due to seepage problems at the all-new Northamptonshire oval
Rain kept the cars off the track for more than a day and a half during last weekend's German round at Lausitz, and on that occasion, CART elected to cancel qualifying and set the grid based on championship standings.
The move was generally applauded within the paddock because it allowed teams to focus on their race set-ups in the limited practice time available and eliminated the need to worry about a qualifying set-up.
"It probably sounds biased because of our position in the championship (second and fourth), but it's a good idea for everyone," said Penske Racing President Tim Cindric. "You can end up taking two steps backwards with your race set-up if you get side-tracked on a qualifying set-up."
Tomorrow's (Friday's) forecast for the Corby area is fine, so qualifying could still be run as planned in the afternoon.
