Mirko Bortolotti on Nurburgring Formula 2 pole again

Mirko Bortolotti topped a tight second qualifying session to take pole position for this afternoon's second Formula 2 race at the Nurburgring

The Italian edged German rival Tobias Hegewald out of the top spot by just 0.014 seconds, as just over one second covered the top 16 drivers.

"I'm really happy about my position, but I did some slight mistakes," said Bortolotti, who won from pole yesterday. "The track was very cold today, not the same conditions as yesterday, and the new tyres were not working the same.

"I messed up some braking points and went wide in some points, but all in all I'm very happy with the result and looking forward to the race."

Britain's Will Bratt claimed third, ahead of Johannes Theobald, who produced the best qualifying performance of his F2 career to set the fourth fastest time of the session, in which each driver was permitted three uses of the 75bhp 'overboost' function in their engines.

Miki Monras and first practice pacesetter Mikkel Mac rounded out the top six, while a late lap from yesterday's runner-up Christopher Zanella elevated him from 17th to seventh.

Jack Clarke, Alex Brundle and Thiemo Storz completed the top 10, while Mihai Marinescu and Ramon Pineiro could not replicate their strong qualifying displays of yesterday and wound up 13th and 14th fastest respectively.
