Mexico date changes
Champ Car World Series organisers have decided to move the date of the second round of the series in Monterrey back to Sunday May 22 - its original planned date - so as to avoid a clash with the playoff action in the Mexican football league
"We will do anything that we can in order to help our valued promoters in Mexico and in turn, to help the many Champ Car fans in Mexico that want to come see our race," said Champ Car President Dick Eidswick. "By moving the race back to Sunday, we can give our Mexican fans a chance to experience a full weekend of Champ Car racing, so we are happy to do it."
The Monterrey event takes place on a 2.104-mile temporary road course in Fundidora Park. Reigning series champion Sebastien Bourdais will return to Mexico as the defending race winner in Monterrey after taking victory from pole position last year.
"We are very happy to have the Monterrey race back on Sunday," said Motorsports Director OCESA/CIE, Federico Alaman. "I'm convinced that this is better for the fans and we worked with Champ Car for the change so that they'll have a better opportunity to enjoy the race while they support our Mexican drivers as well as our soccer teams."
