McRae, Burns cars highlight 60 years of rallying at Autosport Show
Six decades of historic and original rally cars including machines driven by Colin McRae and Richard Burns will grace this weekend's Autosport International Show
American rally school DirtFish is the owner of one of the most extensive selections of original rally machinery in existence, but the collection is restored, prepared and mostly housed at Ian Gwynne's BGMsport team based in Brackley in the UK.
A Stig Blomqvist Ford RS200 headlines the Hall 3 collection at Birmingham's NEC this week.
An ex-Roger Clark Ford Lotus Cortina from the late sixties will sit alongside a Group 4 Ferrari 308 and a Markku Alen Fiat 131 Abarth.
Alen's not the only Finn represented, with a Talbot Lotus Sunbeam from Henri Toivonen's career also in place.
British rallying royalty McRae and Burns are well represented too, with McRae's 2001 Ford Focus RS WRC present, along with the Subaru Legacy RS he used to finish second on the 1992 Swedish Rally.
For Burns, a 1999-specification Subaru Impreza from the first season of his second stint with the Prodrive team will be on display.
Further Ford representation comes from Boreham's mythical RS1700T project from the 1980s, and a modern M-Sport-built Fiesta R5 in DirtFish colours.
"It's been a real pleasure to put this collection together [for Autosport International]," said Gwynne.
"Working with these cars is a labour of love, and the chance to bring them to a high-profile event like Autosport, and have enough space to let people get in and around them, is fantastic.
"What I'm really pleased about is the way we've managed to cover six decades of rallying from the sixties right up to last year with the R5 car."
