McNish to do full season with Audi

Audi have confirmed that 2000 champion Allan McNish will bid for a second American Le Mans Series title by contesting every round this season

As predicted by Autosport last month, the former Toyota F1 driver McNish will contest each of the remaining nine rounds in different machinery, in a bid to add to the 2000 ALMS crown he won with Italian Dindo Capello.

The pair were part of the Audi team that won last month's Sebring 12 hours, the opening round of the ALMS season.

They will team up again in a Champion Racing R8 for the next three rounds of the championship at Houston, Mid-Ohio and Lime Rock, before using the new diesel-powered R10 from Salt Lake City onwards for the final six rounds.

"The championship is ultimately our goal but we are under no illusion, even after our Sebring victory that it is going to be one of the hardest fought seasons in ALMS," said McNish.

"Having won the title with Dindo Capello for Audi in my only previous full ALMS season in 2000, it's good to return with the same combination."

Reigning ALMS champions Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro will drive the second R10 when they enter the series for the final six rounds.
