Mansell to go international

The 18-year-old, who set a best mark of 38.032 seconds (116.06mph) to eclipse Champ Car racer Adrian Fernandez's year-old record last weekend, believes that Dallara Nissan, Euro Formula 3000 or GP2 are his best options to progress

Mansell said: "We're trying to get sponsorship together to do Formula 3000, GP2 or Dallara Nissan next year. We're using EuroBOSS to generate a lot of media attention and experience this year. We want to try to get some money for the end of the season to compete in a few Dallara Nissan races. This is good preparation for that.

"We also get a lot of time in a fast, high-grip, high-downforce car, so I'm learning a lot about the car and set-ups. We decided at the start of the season that there was no point in going the same route as everybody else, so this is different."

Mansell has claimed new outright lap records at all three of this season's EuroBOSS meetings in his ex-Jean Alesi four-litre Judd V10-propelled Benetton B197. In addition to the new milestone at Brands Hatch, he also holds the record on the national configurations of both Donington Park and Silverstone.

Mansell said: "Brands was a big moment for me because the Champ Car record was such a good one to beat. It was always going to be the hardest one, and we've done that. Hopefully we'll break all the records during the season."

EuroBOSS founder Roger Cowman has been impressed with Mansell's performances and is convinced that he will graduate from EuroBOSS into a high-profile series in the near future.

Cowman said: "I'm sure we won't keep Scott for long, but it's very good for BOSS to have him going so well because it shows how competitive it is. Scott's got very good mechanical sympathy as well as speed.

"This championship is another route that could be considered by drivers because it's a lot cheaper to run these cars than to do, say, Formula 3, and the driver will receive a whole lot more experience."
