Mansell impressed by GPM car

Former World Champion Nigel Mansell has admitted that the new Grand Prix Masters cars have exceeded his expectations - and claims they are even quicker than he expected

Speaking on the final day of the first major test for the new Delta Motorsport-built cars at Silverstone, Mansell was full of praise for the machines that are being readied for race action at Kyalami in South Africa on November 13.

"Do you know that I never thought something in motorsport would surpass my expectations, because they are quite high," he said. "And if I am truthful, I think the cars are too quick!

"They are awesome. They have no power steering, no traction control, driver input up and down the gears and with the brakes you have to pay attention to them.

"The whole concept, set-up and balance of the car is really challenging. It is a handful and it gets your attention. I think the drivers and all the guys here have done a wonderful job and the concept is unbelievable."

Mansell's enthusiasm for the Grand Prix Masters series has also been increased by the announcement that veteran commentator Murray Walker is coming out of retirement for the new series.

The pair shared an emotional hug at Silverstone on Friday morning - as they recounted many of their memories of working together in F1.

"Murray will make it a success," added Mansell. "He is an ambassador and does a wonderful job for motorsport. Having him coming on board is tremendous."
