Lavin Lands HVM Drive

The deal will be signed later today, but will begin in time for this weekend's inaugural Grand Prix of San Jose.

The Mexican replaces Alex Sperafico, who has been unimpressive in his two starts for the team.

Lavin brings with him experience, having driven for both Walker Racing and Forsythe Racing. His best result in two seasons was second at Road America in 2004.

"The deal is for commercial reasons," said a team spokesperson. "Lavin brings with him backing from Mexico, which will be seen on the car this weekend."

Lavin could not secure a drive at the start of this season, but his backing from Corona beer will ensure there will be two home drivers on the grid when the series visits Mexico City in November.

It is the third different driver in the second HVM car this season, after Sperafico was drafted in to replace the underfunded Ronnie Bremmer, who is now completing the season with Dale Coyne Racing.

If Lavin impresses in the team he could be retained for 2006 to join Bremmer, who will rejoin Keith Wiggins' squad next season.
