Kerr's 3000 Win Sparks Race Hopes
Robbie Kerr reckons his 3000 Pro Series victory at Lausitzring last weekend will improve his chances of racing for A1 Team Great Britain when the new series visits the circuit next month
Kerr went to Lausitzring last weekend to compete with British team John Village Automotive in a one-off drive in the 3000 Pro Series for 1999-specification F3000 machinery. Having never sat in the car previously, he dominated the 17-lap race, taking pole position and fastest lap.
A1 Team Great Britain have also employed former McLaren Autosport award winner Alex Lloyd for the team, and have not yet announced who will start the series' races for them.
The German track hosts the second round of the World Cup of Motorsport's inaugural season, and with Kerr having already recorded victory in his Formula Three days around Brand Hatch's Grand Prix circuit, Kerr is well placed to start the early races for the team.
The 2002 British F3 champion has completed the bulk of the testing in the A1 GP car in the official tests at Silverstone and Paul Ricard.
"It was a good weekend and it can't hurt me in my chance to secure the A1 GP drive there," Kerr told Autosport-Atlas. "I've not been told who is going to racing the cars and when yet. I did this race privately with my own sponsorship."
The 2002 Formula Three champion has also been linked with a drive in the World Series by Renault, which visits Estoril, three weeks before A1 GP visits the circuit. It also visits Kerr's home country on September 11, racing at Donington Park.
"I don't know if that will happen," Kerr added. "We'll have to see how things play out but there are benefits to it."
