Kane thwarted by perfect Peter
Jonny Kane could only finish 6th in the Indy Lights race at Portland as Austrian Philipp Peter took a flawless victory
The race was incident-packed, nearly half the field retired with accident damage, but Peter made a perfect start from the inside of row two to take the lead. Peter used to drive a works Audi in the German Touring Car series before switching to Indy Lights to revive his single seater career at the beginning of 1998. He led all 38 laps of the race, heavily disrupted by yellow flags.
Guy Smith was the best of the growing British contingent, the Tasman driver came home 3rd behind polesitter Oriol Servia.
