Junqueira confirmed at Newman-Haas
Top Champ Car team Newman-Haas has officially confirmed that Bruno Junqueira will join its line-up for next year, in the wake of Cristiano da Matta's switch to Formula 1 with Toyota
The 25-year-old's move from Indy Racing League-bound Chip Ganassi Racing to Newman-Haas has been predicted for months. But with Christian Fittipaldi switching to NASCAR, who will join the ex-Formula 3000 champion at the team has yet to become clear. Canadian Alex Tagliani has been tipped as a favourite.
"I'm happy to join Newman-Haas Racing," said Junqueira. "They have been the team to beat all season long and they have worked hard to win the CART championship [with da Matta].
"They have won many races and four championships over the years and they are one of the most experienced teams."
Team boss Carl Haas said: "Paul [Newman] and I were very impressed with Bruno's ability. We think he can win many races for us and we are looking forward to the season ahead."
Junqueira lies second in this year's CART standings. In less than two years in the US-based series, he has already won three races.
