ISC wins control of US circuits
The International Speedway Corporation has won control of four race circuits at California, Michigan, Nazareth and North Carolina
The ISC gained control following a merger with Penske Motorsports Inc, which retains the name International Speedway Corp. but will now include Roger Penske, son Greg Penske and PMI vice-chairman Walt Czarnecki on the new board.
ISC already owned 12 per cent of PMI, and will now gain control of the remaining 88 per cent stock.
The massively popular NASCAR organisation has close links with ISC, and it is thought the merger will allow NASCAR events to come to Homestead and could also see the coupling of CART and NASCAR Truck races at PMI tracks.
This has caused some concern as the ISC group now owns 10 major racetracks including Daytona, Talladega, and Watkins Glen. Any further acquisitions would give ISC a near monopoly on motor racing circuits in the US.
ISC's top rival, Bruton Smith's Speedway Motorsports Inc. has not yet released a statement following news of the merger.
