Drivers all washed out in Rio

Rain forced an early end to the first and only full day of practice for the 1999 GP Telemar Rio 200 yesterday

A brief respite in the morning brought hope that the cars might take to the track but the afternoon rain clouds were merciless.

It looks like this morning will be the only shot drivers will have to get a feel for the track. Practice is officially due to begin at 8:30am (1300 BST), and will run until 10:15 (1515 BST). The qualifying session will begin at 12:45 pm (1745 BST).

The only news for the day then are a few changes to the driver line up.

Substituting for the still aching Mark Blundell is Roberto Moreno. Moreno has been a favourite stand in for CART teams over the past two seasons and he was picked as replacement after Blundell was injured in testing at St. Louis.

Also substituting will be Gualter Salles, who will take the wheel of the Bettenhausen Motorsports car, while driver Shigeaki Hattori logs a few more testing miles.
